Video Of The Week (25 Jul to 31 Jul)

AWESOME!!!

A+ Show

ENG: On the 16th and 17th of July the A+ Show took place in the Hamburg museum. The show was organized by the HAW University students and the were mainly shown the works of the  bachelor and diploma students. The first years were allowed you present one outfit each. How mine came to existance you can read here.
The whole weekend was really exciting. We had to help selling tickets, be museum guards during the shows and help to set up all the benches and the catwalk. It was really nice the take a look backstage, talk to the older students and the models and help them to dress. It was such a fun, although it were two long days. Besides I learned that it is better to dress one's model itself, because the designer knows the best how and where to put the clothes on.

My outfit was shown as fourth, but unfortunately there was a missunderstanding between me and the model's dresser and so the model, who was wearing my dress didn't put on the hood (which is the main idea of the dress). But still the whole show was awesome! I was so lucky to see the rehearsal, the first show on firday and the last show on saturday. Logically I made a lot of photos. I picked out the best. Hope you like it,
your future fashion-designer ;)

Der Hof des museums war eine super Kulisse, besonders die Shows am Abend kam besonders gut rüber./ The museum's yard was a great setting and came across really good.

I sew my tunic on my own 2 years ago and I was proud to get so much positive Feedback for it.

I pinned all the entry badges (and the team badge) to my collar. This idea was well aproved and copied by the other designers.
I told my BF and another friend last-minute about the event. At first I don't wanted anybody to come, because it was just one dress from me that was shown, but in the end I was glad they came.

Ich auf dem Laufsteg nach der Show./ Me on the catwalk after the show.

My first own design

Bin gespannt was ihr dazu sagt.

ENG: Today I show you what I've done during studies. We had a Fashiondesign Workshop, which took us a whole weekend. We had the following task: to form half a dress with geometrical shapes using cardboard paper, then copy the shapes to get paper pattern, copy the pattern onto nettle (untreated cotton) and sew half a dress, to see how the geometrical shapes behave with this material in contrast to the cardboard dress.
After that we had a couple of weeks time to sew a whole dress. The conditions were that we had to use at least three different colors and fabrics and that we change pieces of the dress by adding, excluding, knotting, trimming etc. I chose these colors because I wanted to have bright and contrasty ones. My intention was to let the geometrical shapes vanish using soft fabrics.
The special thing about the dress is that you can wear the hood also as a collar and so you have four possibilities to wear it.
Then we had to put the "dress" into a scene and take pictures. I made the photos on the dunes and I think the result looks like Amidala from Star Wars mixed up with the wedding dress of a Chinese circus artist.
Write comments, I'm excited to know what you've to say.

Edit: I'll show you the process (half cardboard paper and the nettle dress), when I manage to save the files. And in my next Post I'll show you pictures from the Fashionshow, where my dress was shown, too.

MY TOP 3 RESORT COLLECTIONS 2010- Hurrah for clothes that normal people can wear!

I love designer's resort collections because you can actually wear them.
I know that fashion designers, journalists and magazines claim that the new designer "must haves" are "so wearable" all the time (usually when referring to something that my Dad would incessantly take the piss out of me wearing- always a bad sign with clothing) but the resort collections really are just that.

So I always eagerly await my Style.com resort fix to see the gorgeous clothes that mere mortals (aka not supermodels, socialites or any kind of supposed super human celebrity) can actually wear. Hurrah for clothes that normal people can wear down the high street and not the catwalk!

1. In at first place- Marc by Marc Jacobs. Inspired by dancers in rehearsals this collection was utter pared down perfection. If I had the money to buy the whole collection (or who am I kidding? Just one piece from the collection would make me so happy) I would. And I'd wear it non-stop all summer long. My favourite collection by miles.

2. Second place goes to YSL for the colours that just screamed "summer." I love the use of colour blocking for day and all black looks for night, all the while with high-waisted shorts to make the outfits even more chic and practical. One both for the tomboys and the girlie girls.

3. Last but not least- Erdem. You can always count on this label to deliver on the prints front and this collection was no exception. The cool digital prints infused with marine blues are gorgeous. And so wearable. Well, what did I tell you?

Fashion Hollywood Celebrity Beauty

Are Celebrities the New Fashion Designers?

The style of Americans is constantly transitioning. With new designers and upcoming labels being created everyday and multiplying due to more accessible outlets and technology, Americans, now more than ever, have access to multicultural styles from across the nation. Where New York was once thought as the fashion capital of the country, and perhaps even the world, Southern California is gaining more prominence due to Hollywood celebrity influence, completely changing the way Americans gain exposure to the newest trends and fashion.

This has even changed the way designers do business, where once, advertisements and commercials was the most significant way to showcase their threads, a paparazzi photo of Paris Hilton in a certain designer's clothes can make headlines in the tabloids, and accidentally promote the designer. It is not based so much on news print and media to display these clothes anymore, saving millions of dollars in advertisements, but it is the act of giving away free clothes to celebrities, in hopes that they will to wear their designs on a particular day that they get shot in a paparazzi photo. The whim of Hollywood celebrities now has precedence over choosing the trends of Americans across the nation.
Several Hollywood celebrities including Nicole Richie, Paris Hilton and Gwyneth Paltrow have gone even a step further from showcasing other designer's lines, into actually starting their own lines. Seeing first handedly of the influence that they have over promoting other designers just by wearing their clothes, has enabled them to envision the great success they potentially could have by creating their own lines. Nicole Richie has already started her own jewelry line named House of Harlow, with aspirations of branching out to clothing, shoes and handbags. Currently, the price of this jewelry line ranges from around $55 to over $400 and is sold exclusively at Kitson, a popular boutique in LA known for its celebrity customers. It is astounding that such accessories made of metal and tin, probably imported from China or India, without any real precious stones or metal can be so pricey. (http://www.shopkitson.com/index.php?pageId=2&manufacturer_name=HOUSE+OF+HARLOW+1960&show=all).It is also common that many celebrities just lend their names to a brand in order to promote it. Where they may not have any actual say in the result of their products, if the label says Victoria Beckham on it, it will sell out. Take Paris Hilton's shoe and handbag line for instance. Paris Hilton claims to have no knowledge in designing and sketching. She obviously has no idea how to construct clothing herself, never the less create handbags or shoes, yet her line can be found in Macy's department stores nationwide. (http://www.theinsider.com/news/642268_Paris_Hilton_Launches_New_Footwear_Line_At_Macys)
Furthermore, one of Hollywood's biggest stars, Gwyneth Paltrow, has decided to launch her own fashion line for next fall and winter. The line will be named ZOEtee's Loves Gwyneth and will be a capsule collection for ZOEtee's, a French fashion house. Paltrow claims that the proceeds of this line will go towards London's Kids Company, drawing attention towards this charity in assisting children over the UK area.

Where it is common for celebrities to use the attention that they attract to promote their movies, events and clothing lines, it is also an upcoming trend for them to use the attention that they attract to draw awareness to other charities and good causes. Now, with all these various celebrity collaborations teaming up with charities, it is so easy to be fashionable and philanthropic.

Where The Stars Come Out - Hollywood's Favourite Celebrity Hangouts

To many people, the image of Hollywood, and of LA in general, is either a place that's full of glitz and glamour, and positively swarming with celebrities - or as devoid of celebrities, with them hiding out in their mansions or at exclusive, elitist clubs where only celebrities themselves are allowed to go.

The reality is that neither of these extremes is correct. If you're visiting LA, the chances are that you won't see a celebrity. But equally, if you live in Hollywood, celebrity spotting is just another perk of living in glamorous surroundings.
Another nugget of truth that can be sifted out of the rumours of Hollywood is that there are specific places where celebrities go to do the things that everyday people enjoy - there are shops, restaurants, nightspots, even video stores that are favourites of the stars. But the fact is, everyone is welcome - not just celebrities! Some of the stars' favourite restaurants include seafood specialist Crustacean, where the key is to dress and act like a movie-star; Spago, famous chef Wolfgang Puck's own restaurant, which many argue sets the standard for eating in Hollywood (which, when you consider some of the richest people in the world live here, is certainly saying something!); Patrick's Roadhouse, a favourite spot for a celebrity breakfast (where now-governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger had a permanent table!); and of course The Ivy, favourite of Demi Moore and Kiefer Sutherland, which itself has made several movie appearances, notably in John Travolta and Danny DeVito's 'Get Shorty' and 1992 smash-hit 'The Bodyguard'.
The top nightspots where the stars choose to shine include music venues The Viper Room, which, although small and intimate, has seen stars of sizeable magnitude, including Johnny Cash, Tom Petty, The Counting Crows and Lenny Kravitz; The Roxy, which was once a second home to rockers Guns 'n Roses; and The Troubadour, which has seen the likes of Elton John and Tom Waits performing. Favourite nightclubs include world-famous Whisky a Go Go (which itself has a impressive musical history), El Floradita and The Sky Bar.And finally, if you feel you need to take something with you from the land of the stars, the shops that are best-loved by celebrities include Di Fabrizio Shoes, shoemaker to the likes of Frank Sinatra, Robert De Niro and Liza Minnelli; Book Soup, a book store that often has star-signings as well; Illume Candles, candle makers that keep the stars' homes glowing; and every celebrities' favourite fashion store, Fred Segal, which is mentioned in fashion-obsessed films like 'Clueless' and 'Legally Blonde', and has a reputation for trend-setting and essential fashion.LA has two Fred Segal stores, one in Hollywood and one in nearby Santa Monica, an area that is popular with celebs because of its beautiful beaches and relaxed way of life. It is home to Patrick's Roadhouse, and as well as being the home of some of the best eateries and fashion stores and hotels in LA, is also home to many major stars, such as Bob Dylan, Anjelica Huston, Christina Ricci and Tobey Maguire.
There are also a great deal of top-quality hotels in Santa Monica, so if you feel like living like an LA star, this is the place to be!

Prom review

Here is the third and last part Post about proms. I show you all the proms I have been the last years. My personal fav is the one from last year. I love the hat with the feathers.
I am a bit proud of the self-sewn dress I wore 2008. Unfortunately the prom was cancelled and so I wore the dress just this one short evening [maybe there will be an opportunity in 2011 ;) ].
Besides I think you can find nice dress at TK Maxx or Lipsy London. Shoes and bag are a bigger problem. It's hard to find nice matching pairs, that's why I have improved the look of my shoes and bag by "tinkering" very often.
